We're Kimberly and Christine, two moms who connected during those beautiful yet challenging early stages of parenthood. We shared stories of parenting fails and the joy of discovering a truly captivating book that both our kids and we adored. Little did we know that these conversations would pave the way for the birth of booklove—a company driven by our passion for reading and making a positive difference.
As we embarked on this journey, we couldn't help but reflect on our mothers' profound impact on our love for books. They were the ones who ignited our imaginations, encouraged our curiosity, and instilled within us a lifelong appreciation for books.
However, as busy parents ourselves, we soon realized the challenges of finding quality books that resonate with both children and adults. The struggles of navigating bookstores with our kids or spending hours researching books online left us feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. We knew there had to be a better way.
Then, something significant happened that changed the direction of our conversations. The tragic events surrounding George Floyd's death and the ensuing Black Lives Matter movement compelled us to take action and find a way to educate our own children about these important social issues. We had a hunch that many other families were seeking guidance too, so we embarked on a journey of exploration.
Through interviews with families, our suspicions were confirmed. Parents not only wanted but needed support in navigating discussions about race, and also other topics like mental health, climate change, etc. However, with limited time as parents, doing extensive research is a burden. Our conversations with families helped us recognize the need for accessible and engaging resources that would assist families to have these conversations and take action.
As passionate readers ourselves, we knew that books held the potential to spark meaningful conversations and foster understanding and compassion for all humans. However, like us - parents didn't just need books, we needed tools and expertly developed resources and activities to guide conversations.
And so, booklove was born. Through our Spotlight Boxes and book selections we aim to help busy families read, grow, and love together.
At booklove, we wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of books. We know that stories have the ability to help children explore themselves, understand different perspectives, and learn about the world around them. Our aim is to be your trusted companion on this journey, offering you the tools and resources you need to facilitate meaningful conversations and foster a love of reading in your children. With our diverse backgrounds as a lawyer and clinical researcher and our shared interest as lifelong learners and readers, we’ll do all the legwork, research, and consult with experts while you do what’s most important, reading with your children and bonding over stories.
