Before and After Reading Questions

Try asking questions before and after reading to make the experience more engaging. Asking questions before reading helps pique their curiosity while discussing the story afterward helps kids reflect on the story and share their thoughts. Below are a few suggestions to get you started.

    • Before Reading: What do you think this story is about?
    • After Reading:  What was your favorite part of the book? Why?
    • After Reading - Book Specific Questions:
      1. Grace for President: What would you do if you were president of your classroom?
      2. The President of the Jungle: Which animal would you have voted for? Why?
      3. Leo’s First Vote: What did Leo learn about voting?
    • Voting Questions: These questions can be asked before or after reading.
